I am sad to announce the passing of Chris Smith on March 15, 2021, just a couple of hours past his birthday (actually, mine as well). Chris is the twin brother of Rick, who passed many years ago now. Both brothers were active in LCHS politics and even scored a Valley Sun cover photo dressed for success at some school government function. You may better remember both of them as the cheerleaders that you could never tell apart! Chris lived most recently with his wife Julie in Charleston, SC, having previously lived in the seaside town of Darien, CT. HIs first home was in Newport Beach, which as an Irvine neighbor did impress me. Chris had 2 daughters, Whitney and Finley (better known as “Scooter”). Whitney unfortunately lost her life 10 years ago in a tragic car accident near their CT home. Chris followed his dad into the corporate insurance world and it was good to him. He was a skilled small craft sailor and Shelter Island (NY) was an annual family summer destination up until this past pandemic year. He also golfed and skied, was a self taught gourmet cook, and a consummate car guy. Chris passed after a 3 month hospitalization following an unsuccessful treatment for throat cancer. Memorial plans are on hold due to the pandemic, but cards can be addressed to his wife Julie at: 610 Bootlegger Lane, Charleston SC 29412. Submitted by Jack Detling
