Classmate Passings 2023

We are sad to share the news of our classmate Susan Waldner-Harmon's passing. Susan was born in Los Angeles on July 27, 1948 and passed at her home on December 13, 2022 of ovarian ad peritoneala cancers.

"Susie", was the third born to Chuck and Henrietta Waldner. She grew up in La Cañada, attending La Cañada Elementary, La Cañada Juior High and graduating with us in 1966.

Susie joined the Peace Corps after graduating but when she learned she'd been accepted to Pasadena City College, she opted to study instead. Initially, following in the footsteps of her mom, she studied to become a secretary and got her AA Degree. But she later realized how much she enjoyed children, so she attended Cal State LA and studied education. Her first job was at Pasadena Christian School where she was both an administrator and third grade teaacher for 35 years. She went back to CSULA and while still teaching full time, got her MA in education. She also taught eveni;ng classes to CSULA students who were seeking their MA degree. She retired in 2012 and moved to Beaumont.

Susie was married a few times and as the saying goes, "Third time's the charm!". She married Mitch Harmon and they were married for 33 years. Mitch was her "rock" and the "love of her life." In retirement, they enjoyed walks, hikes, traveling to Europe, going on cruises and keeping up with lifelong friends, colleagues, and excelled at line dancing. Susie was also a life-long body surfer.

Susie's faith is what got her through rough the times and was a prayer warrior, So many of her Caring Bridge posts online showed her deep love for Christ.

Susie is survived by husband, Mitch, sisters Joey (and Joe) Dieringer, Kathy Waldner-Gourash (Andy) and many nieces and nephews.

Submitted by Marsha Kettle-Boal, Susie's best friend since Kindergarten at LCE, for over 70 years.
