When I moved to the LC Elementary area, Bobby lived not far away. He was one of the first kids I made friends with in my new neighborhood. He was pretty good ball player and always up for a game.
Bobby was my first "sweetheart" at La Cañada Elem. School 4th grade (when we moved to La Cañada). It must have been an "Italian thing!" We re-connected when he and his family were living in Encinitas, CA. and we were living in Carlsbad, CA. Unbeknownst to us, we ended up in the same hospital -- his wife, Liz, giving birth to their 6th child (girl) and me having delivered our 3rd child (Luke) the day before! That was 37 years ago!! As he bravely battled his cancer for several years before he passed, I had the incredible opportunity to visit with him many times - laughing (still the jokester) & sharing LCHS stories (some real humdingers!) and our faith. We were very close at the end. I also sang (his request) at his funeral Mass at Mission San Luis Rey, Oceanside, CA. Bobby died in August, 2004.
