Sorry to hear of the passing of Guy Goodenow. I had Guy in a few classes during our school years in LC. He was also on the same little league team one summer. He was quiet and mature beyond his years (so, yes, we had very little in common), but I admired the stylish way he went about things. His whole family was very stylish, in tastes, in fashion. They owned the only Avanti I have ever seen up close and personal. It was a car ahead of its time--coincidentally, the same way I feel about Guy. Farewell.

I read Jim Nunn’s comment this am about Guy, of whom probably too few knew, and then saw a story in today’s Saturday Wall Street Journal which mentioned an interesting song from the 80s group The The.  Seems relevant.

From the article,

“This song (This Is The Day) is about nostalgia but oddly looking forward as well, promising that your life will turn out great:  “And all your friends and family / think that you’re lucky / But the side of you they’ll never see / is when you’re left alone with the memories / that hold your life / together/ like glue”

Approaching the eventuality of our own “in memoriam”, we see, ever more clearly, the glue of our LCHS years.  Mostly good.
